West Virginia (WOAY) West Virginia’s Fall hunting seasons are getting underway, with youth opportunities and the regular squirrel season both opening this month.
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources says the first youth black bear season is September 12 and 13, followed by the first youth waterfowl season on September 19.
The minimum age restriction for youth seasons has been removed.
Hunters under 15 must still be accompanied by a licensed adult who is at least 18.
The state’s regular squirrel season also opens September 12 and runs through February 28, 2027.
The daily bag limit is six squirrels, with a possession limit of 24.
The DNR reminds hunters to review current regulations, licensing requirements, and safety guidelines before heading into the field.
