West Virginia’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday kicks off on July 31

Charleston, WV (WOAY) West Virginia shoppers can soon save some money as the state’s annual Sales Tax Holiday returns at the end of the month.

The tax-free weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 31, and runs through 11:59 p.m. Monday, August 3.

During that time, shoppers won’t pay sales tax on qualifying clothing priced at $125 or less per item, school supplies priced at $50 or less, school instructional materials priced at $20 or less, laptops and tablets priced at up to 500 dollars, and sports equipment priced at $150 or less.

The exemption applies to each item, so there’s no limit on the total purchase amount.

However, items purchased for business use are not eligible, and products exceeding the price limits are taxable on the full purchase price.

The tax holiday also applies to eligible online purchases, as long as they’re ordered and paid for during the holiday period for immediate shipment.
