West Virginia State Police establish violent crime task force

Charleston, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia State Police is starting a new task force to investigate cases across the mountain state.

The West Virginia State Police Violent Crime Task Force (VTCF) is a collaborative effort between the West Virginia State Police, the Monongalia County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation that will focus on investigation, arrest and prosecute offenders in violent crimes and other cold cases throughout the State of West Virginia.

According to a press release from the West Virginia State Police, Troopers acknowledge the necessity for violent crimes and cold case investigations to be completed statewide and the sheer number of investigations that are unsolved around the state.

The VCTF will work in concert with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, the WVSP Forensic Laboratory, SAKI (Sexual Assault Kit Initiative) Coordinators, SAKI Investigators, and WVIX (West Virginia Intelligence Exchange) to achieve this mission.

The West Virginia State Police is responsible for the general direction of the VCTF.
