West Virginia receives major disaster declaration from President Trump following devastating flooding

West Virginia (WOAY)—Governor Patrick Morrisey announced the federal government accepted the request for Individual Assistance in McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, and Wyoming counties.

Other counties included in the request remain under consideration.

The Individual Assistance (IA) Program aids individuals experiencing significant damage to homes or property.

This declaration also allows all West Virginia counties to participate in the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

The program can provide resources to reduce future flooding and assist Public Service Districts with wastewater treatment and other long-term hazard reduction projects.

The Public Assistance request is still under review by FEMA.
