West Virginia Humanities Council to host History Alive performance to commemorate 250th anniversary of Dunmore’s War

Ansted, WV (WOAY)- The West Virginia Humanities Council is bringing history to life, hosting a history-alive event on Saturday, August 3, at Hawk’s Nest State Park. 

Living history interpreters will perform “Thomas Ingles: A Man Between Cultures” to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Dunmore’s War.  

Dunmore’s War, which took place in the summer of 1774, is considered a stepping stone to the American Revolution. 

Thomas Ingles, the son of Mary Ingles, was captured during the French and Indian War at 4 years old. 

Ingles was adopted by a Shawnee tribe, with who he lived for 13 years before returning to Virginia. 

After the battle of Point Pleasant, ingles served as a liaison between Shawnees and Virginians.  

History interpreters will be on the scene from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm near the lodge picnic shelters. 

The performance will kick off at 4:00 pm in the lodge conference room.
