Ohio (CNN)- A fugitive, wanted in southern West Virginia, was shot and killed Monday afternoon in Ohio following a standoff with multiple law enforcement agencies.
The fugitive, who authorities have not yet publicly identified, had a lengthy criminal history back to the 1970s, including armed bank robbery, aggravated robbery, burglary, and multiple weapons offenses.
The fugitive was wanted for a federal weapons offense violation.
The U.S. Marshals’ office says the suspect barricaded himself in a motel room in Jackson township and refused to comply with orders from officers.
Two state and regional fugitive task forces and SWAT team agencies were also on the scene.
Authorities reportedly gave the suspect numerous opportunities to surrender.
The suspect refused, eventually opening fire on officers.
Law enforcement returned gunfire.
A SWAT team officer suffered a gunshot in the arm, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
