West Virginia (WOAY) West Virginia Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients affected by the severe storms that began July 21 have more time to report food losses and request replacement benefits.
The West Virginia Department of Human Services says the USDA has approved an extension of the reporting period through August 10.
The extension applies to current SNAP recipients in all 55 counties who lost food because of the storms, which caused flash flooding, landslides, road closures, and power outages.
Eligible households must be West Virginia residents, currently receive SNAP benefits, and have lost food due to a disaster, household misfortune, or a power outage lasting more than four hours.
Those seeking replacement benefits must also submit a signed affidavit.
People who believe they qualify are encouraged to report their losses before the August 10 deadline through their local DOHS county office.
