West Virginia American Water issues precautionary boil water advisory for Legends Highway and surrounding areas following main break

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY)-Important update for residents in the Oak Hill area.

West Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory affecting approximately 857 customers.

This includes residents along Legends Highway, as well as the communities of Hilltop, Sanger, Prudence, Glen Jean, Thurmond, and those living on Cafego Street, Jasper Street, and Wingrove Hill.

The advisory comes after a main break in the area.

Crews are on-site and working to complete repairs, with water service expected to be restored by 2:00 PM.

Once service is back on, affected customers are urged to boil their water before using it for drinking, cooking, bathing, or brushing teeth.

Health officials recommend bringing water to a full boil for at least one minute, then allowing it to cool before use.

West Virginia American Water advises residents to discard any beverages or ice made with tap water. Store boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking.

Also, only give pets boiled, cooled water; don’t rely on home water filters, as they do not remove all harmful microorganisms, and use only boiled water to treat minor injuries.
