WELCH, WV (WOAY) – The City of Welch has reopened their public pool after a brief COVID scare from last week.
Officials say a patron at the pool didn’t show any signs of COVID-19, but in reality they had already tested positive before visiting the pool. Roughly 15 other people were at the pool at the time and are now going through contact tracing procedures.
Now the mayor of Welch says the pool has reopened after a thorough cleaning.
“Immediately when they called Saturday, we went ahead and we shut down on Sunday. Staff cleaned, and cleaned, and cleaned and cleaned to health department specs. So we’re back open today and I think everything’s gonna be okay.”
All pool patrons are required to be screened for symptoms of COVID-19 before entering.
