WELCH, WV (WOAY) – Fourth of July weekend is celebrated for many reasons.
In McDowell County, one of those reasons will be to honor fire departments in the area. There will be a memorial this Saturday taking place late morning into early afternoon.
“After the police memorial in Gary, we were discussing there should be a fire memorial in McDowell County,” said Public Relations Officer S.P. “Pat” McKinney. “Welch Fire Chief Dennie Hale said, ‘let’s do it this year, let’s put it at Welch Station 2.’ So at 11:30 on Saturday morning, we are dedicating the space where we’re going to erect the final statue. We will have a marker there. We’ve invited all fire departments in the area.”
McKinney is encouraging members of all fire departments throughout the area to join on Saturday morning.
