Weekend outlook: showers likely early, then some clearing

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a nice day today around the region, with a few scattered showers, but this evening those went away, and skies are clouding up ahead of a front that will come into the area tomorrow.

The front is the same one that has produced some very rough weather to our southwest over the last couple of days. Fortunately, that will not be the case for us tomorrow. Instead, we’ll see chances for showers and storms through most of the day. One or two of the storms could be strong, but most of the rough stuff will stay well to our northwest. Unfortunately, it’s on a weekend, but we do need the rain as the drought has worsened over the past week.

Rain totals with this first storm will not be overly impressive and should be around a quarter to a half inch over a widespread area, but as we’ve been saying during the newscasts, every bit helps.

The rain tomorrow will keep temperatures in check a bit, and we’ll wind up around 70 degrees, about 10 degrees cooler than today. Lows tomorrow night would normally be milder as the cloud cover keeps it warmer, but with the influx of somewhat colder air, it will be cooler; we’ll drop into the upper 40s in most areas.

Sunday, we’ll start with rain around the region as lingering showers behind the departing front will fall early. As the day goes on, skies will clear, and we’ll wind up with partly cloudy skies by sunset. Highs will also be somewhat cooler and will be in the mid-60s.
