OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – Some strong showers and storms have made their way through mainly central and northern portions of the area today. We had a Flash Flood Warning and Flood Advisory with the evening storms, and a Special Weather Statement with the later storms. The storms will gradually weaken as they push through the region, but with more heavy rain, more flooding headlines are possible as we go through the rest of the night.
As we start the weekend, patchy fog is possible, particularly in places that picked up rain tonight. Temperatures will start in the mid-60s and rise fairly quickly into the lower 80s by the afternoon. As the day goes on, the shower and storm chances return as Saturday is similar to Friday. We’ll once again see some strong storms at times, but as has been the case recently, the main threat will be flooding. There continues to be a lot of moisture for the storms to work with, and a quick inch or more of rainfall is possible underneath the storms. Also, like we saw today, there will be two rounds of storms tomorrow as a first round of storms driven by the heating of the day will be joined by a second round of storms during the night as another disturbance pushes through the region.
Later Sunday, there will be a short-lived break from the frequent rains as weak high pressure takes over. Rain chances won’t go away altogether, but they will drop to around 20% beginning Sunday afternoon and lasting through much of Monday before going back up into the same neighborhood that we’ve been in for much of the past couple of weeks. With some extra sunshine, Sunday’s highs will be a degree or two warmer than they will be on Saturday, generally in the lower 80s.
As we start off the next traditional work week, lows will be in the mid-60s again. A real cool down will have to wait for another few days as there continue to be hints of a front making it to near or just through the region at the end or shortly after the end of the seven-day forecast period.
