OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a very nice day for high school football around the region as out first Fabulous Football Friday featured mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine. We wound up in the lower 80s in most areas, with some upper 70s in the typically cooler spots. Not typical football weather in the two Virginias, but much better than the strong storms that pounded some parts of the area last night. Tonight, with some dry air in place behind last night’s front, we’ll see lows drop into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Patchy fog is still a possibility, but the coverage should be less than what we saw this morning, thanks to the dry air.
The first half of the weekend will be a warm one, with highs in the lower 80s, a few degrees warmer than it should be and a degree or two warmer than it was today. We’ll also see a few widely scattered showers popping up during the day.
Despite the small chance for rain, it will be a great day to do anything outside, but don’t forget the sunscreen! Extra water will come in handy if you’re exercising outside due to the dry weather. Tomorrow night we’ll be back in mild territory again, as lows will be in the mid-60s.
Sunday will be an even warmer day than Saturday as the high-pressure center that has been in control of our weather will push off to our southeast, giving us a southwesterly flow, which will do what a southwesterly flow always does: drive the temperatures and humidity levels up, creating a summerlike feel to the day. Highs on Sunday will be in the mid-80s. Lows Sunday night will be in the mid-60s.
The warming trend stays with us throughout the extended forecast. The big question later on will be the chances for showers and storms late in the forecast period. More on that as the forecast for late next week comes more into focus.
