OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a nice day today around the region, with plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures. Highs will wind up in the lower 80s in most areas, with some upper 70s for some. High pressure has been parked over the area for much of the day but is now moving to the east. That has turned the flow to the south and southwest tonight, which has raised the humidity level and the overall temperatures. Lows will be in the lower 60s.
The warming and more humid trends continue as we start the weekend. Highs will be in the lower 80s on Saturday under partly sunny skies. There will be more humidity around as well, giving us a summerlike feel. A few showers will pop up in the afternoon, but most of the outdoor plans and outdoor festivals should be fine weather-wise.
Later Saturday night, some heavier showers and a few rumbles of thunder will come into the picture. With the extra cloud cover and the southerly flow, temperatures will only drop into the mid-60s, another sign that summer is back.
The second half of the weekend will be busier than the first, with more frequent and stronger storms. The same storm system that’s producing rough weather to our west over Missouri this evening will be here by Sunday. While the storms here will not be as strong as they are there tonight (they’ve seen numerous tornado warnings issued by the National Weather Service), some of the storms in our area could still produce strong winds, and the heavy rainfall attached to the storms could lead to chances for flash flooding. Both the damaging wind and flooding scenarios are covered by the official forecasts from the Storm Prediction Center and Weather Prediction Center and cover the Sunday into Monday timeframe.
With the extra cloud cover, highs will be slightly cooler, generally around the 80-degree mark. Lows on Sunday night will be in the mid-60s.
