Weekend outlook: Great weather for getting outdoors

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a very nice day around the region, with plenty of sunshine. High pressure over Ontario will dominate the weather for the next several days. It was a nice change from the heavy rain that we saw a couple of days ago. There is a downside for warm weather lovers, however: temperatures are about 10 degrees cooler than normal. Highs were in the 60s today, and with the cool start, longer nights, and dry air in place, lows will wind up in the lower 40s in most areas, with some upper 30s in higher elevation locations. Patchy frost is possible again, but there are no advisories in effect.

The first half of the weekend will be a carbon copy of what we saw today. Sunshine will dominate the skies, with only a few thin clouds around. After a cool start to the morning, temperatures rebound nicely, with highs in the 60s in most areas. Some of the same places that will be in the upper 30s in the morning will wind up in the lower 70s in the afternoon, the big spread between lows and highs showing how dry the air will be over the region. The opposite effect of what we’ll see during the day also applies at night. Lows will drop quickly after sunset and will be in the mid-to-upper 40s again Saturday night.

The second half of the weekend will again feature sunshine and dry weather as the same Canadian high remains in control. There will be a slight warming trend as the weekend goes on. Sunday highs will be in the mid-60s, and Sunday night lows will again be in the mid-to-upper 40s. Overall, it’s a good weekend for outdoor plans!
