Weather Update: Few Bursts of Snow Then Piercing Cold Arrives

A weather system will bring a coating of snow today and tonight, a second system is likely Saturday with a third system Sunday before the dangerous cold arrives.

Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill has the latest on the Lake Country morning show (one of our radio partners):

Brief notes:

Winter Weather Advisories for 1-4 inches along and east of Rt. 19 and Winter Storm Warning for 6-12 inches in Nicholas.

Steady very light snow, then parting clouds mid-afternoon with whatever little snow accumulation melting. Snow redevelops 6-7 pm and continues off and on through daybreak. That’s when we get most of our accumulation.

Total snow amount of about 1.5 inches in Summersville, but no impact to Rt. 19…. a few side streets could be a little slippery late this evening. In the eastern ridges, 2 inches.

Remainder of Rt. 19 won’t see any more than a dusting today that will melt this afternoon and another coating to 1 inch this evening. Meadow Bridge, Patterson Mountain will see about 2.5″.

Sat: Quick burst of snow at daybreak with a coating, then a glaze of ice, then rain by 11 a.m.

Light snow overnight Saturday and then again Sunday into Monday with 2-3″ before the cold blast arrives.

Coldest temps Tue and Wed AM with negative numbers.

Snow Jan 24-26, then temps go off to the races.
