OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – Heavy rain and strong showers and storms rolled through the area yesterday, and a few rain showers continued as we started our Monday morning. Patchy fog was the other travel concern; some locations had visibilities around half a mile.
Later today, the fog will lift, but the chance for showers and storms returns in the higher elevations as upsloping with a northwesterly flow could trigger a few showers and storms.
Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s, with the amount of sun and elevation both determining how warm it gets.
Tonight will be a carbon copy of this morning regarding the fog, but we’ll also see more seasonable temperatures as the cool front that triggered yesterday’s storms makes its presence known.
Tomorrow will be a drier day as we find ourselves between fronts. Sunday’s cool front will be moving slightly back to the north and will be close enough to trigger a few storms. Once again, the storms will mainly be confined to the higher elevations. Even with a 30% chance for rain, it will still be the best day of the week – a definite sign of how active it will be over the next seven days.
Much better rain chances are in the forecast on Wednesday as another front approaches from the northwest, driven by a low passing to our north. The day should start well enough, but the rain chances will go up as the day goes on, and some of the storms that pop up will have heavy rain attached; we’ll be tracking the chances for more flooding.
The rest of the extended forecast features more of the same. Disturbances will push through the region regularly during the last few days of the forecast period, leading to rain chances each day. For now, rain totals over the next week do not look very high, but in areas where there is already high water in place, additional flooding is possible.
