Wasteland Jamboree brings over $33,000 to West Virginia charities

Braxton County, WV (WOAY) – Braxton County received a lot of funding from an unusual source.

Wasteland Jamboree, an event hosted by Fallout for Hope and Buttered Popcorn Productions, brought in over 5,000 people to the area on May 2nd and 3rd.

According to Fallout for Hope, the community gathered over $33,000 for multiple charities.

The Mountaineer Food Bank received over $1,100 in direct cash donations at the charity gala.

Buttered Popcorn Productions matched 50 percent of event proceeds and donated $15,000 directly to the food bank.

They also donated $5,000 to the Flatwoods Volunteer Fire Department during their pancake breakfast and donated $2,850 to the Braxton County High School basketball team

Additionally, an online content creator, @MrsFallout, raised over $5,140 for the Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia.

Braxton County datapoints state that the event brought a 2.35 million dollar impact to the area, which is equal to at least 20% of the county’s entire annual tourism spending within 48 hours.

This also happened during the region’s slowest non-winter weekend.
