OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We are seeing clouds across the region this evening as moisture from the Nor’easter impacting the East Coast has produced a deck of low-level clouds over our area. After clouds and showers in Pocahontas County this weekend, the clouds took over the skies everywhere today. At least the showers went away, save for a few sprinkles. Tonight, clouds will hang around, which will keep temperatures slightly warmer than they have been. There could even be some fog to slow us down a bit tomorrow morning. We’ll drop to around 50 degrees.
Tomorrow, the clouds will continue to dominate the skies early in the day. Later, the flow turns south and southeast as the coastal low pushes northeast into the Canadian Maritimes and high pressure takes over again; it will be over the eastern Great Lakes by day’s end. With the flow turning to the south and increasing sunshine through the day, a gradual warmup begins, with highs tomorrow rising into the 70s, the first time since the 22nd that they will be able to reach that level.
Lows will even be warmer tomorrow night despite the mostly clear skies, dropping into the lower 50s.
The warming trend continues through the middle of the extended forecast, and by Thursday we’ll see average highs near 80 degrees. The warming trend will not last long, however, as another low-pressure center moves north of the region, dragging a front through and bringing rain back late Friday and early Saturday.
The chance of rain is pretty small Friday night for the football games, but it is not zero, so rain gear will be a good idea just in case. The chance of rain lasts through the rest of the extended forecast. The front that will produce the rain will have cooler air behind it, and temperatures are expected to drop until they’re in the same territory they’re in now, with highs in the mid-60s and lows around 50 degrees.
