Warm weather returns for a bit

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a cloudy, rainy, and windy weekend around the region as the remnants of Isaias pushed through the state.

In the end, the path of the storm took it directly over the northern part of the area. Now, after a few clouds and sprinkles on the back side of the storm, skies are clearing, a trend that will take us through the next few days. Temperatures tonight will not be as cold as might be expected given the clear skies. With the flow quickly turning to the southwest, we’ll drop into the lower-to-mid-50s.

Tomorrow under mostly sunny to sunny skies, highs will be in the mid-to-upper-70s again, the first time for temperatures to reach that lofty level since October 2nd. The warming trend continues tomorrow night with lows near 60 degrees. Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week, with the high rising a couple of degrees above Tuesday’s level; we’ll get to near 80 degrees in Beckley and, of course, the usual warmer spots will see highs in the lower 80s.
All of the warm air is ahead of the next front that will arrive on Thursday. Showers are possible that day, and an isolated rumble of thunder or two cannot be ruled out.
Rain totals with the front are not super impressive; the current thinking is that most areas will receive less than an inch of rainfall, although northern areas will likely receive a bit more.
What the front lacks in moisture it more than makes up in cold air; it’s the coldest air that we’ll have seen so far this season. Temperatures will plummet Friday afternoon. While most of the precipitation will be gone by Saturday morning, any precipitation that is left could change to a mix of rain and snow or all snow. That will mainly be true in Pocahontas County as well as the higher elevation areas of Greenbrier County.
By Saturday morning, lows will be in the upper 30s in most areas and will likely be below freezing in the high elevation areas. Saturday is Bridge Day, of course, so if you’re headed out to the festivities, be sure to bundle up!
Temperatures stay cold all weekend, although Sunday will be warmer than Saturday. By the end of the forecast, the warming trend continues, and warm weather lovers should take delight in the current 6–10-day forecast, which is expected to feature above normal temperatures.
As for precipitation, dry weather can be expected after the late week front.
