It is another warm afternoon around southern West Virginia, with temperatures in the lower to middle 80s and heat indices in the upper 80s, with some lower 90s in the usual warmer spots.

There were a few showers in the same areas that saw rain yesterday, but they faded away earlier this afternoon, and now all areas are dry. Still, there is a chance for an isolated shower to pop up before sunset, but the chances are very small. Tonight, we’ll see mostly clear conditions and temperatures that are a few degrees above normal.

Tomorrow starts off nice enough, but as the day goes on, clouds and showers will be on the increase.

Highs will be a shade cooler than today, thanks to the extra cloud cover, but still at or above the normal. Any shower that pops up could have heavy rain attached to it because there is still plenty of moisture to work with. Humidity levels are still in summer territory. Luckily, it’s been fairly dry over the past couple of weeks (Beckley is about 0.8″ below the normal for the month so far), so flooding should not be a concern unless there is persistent heavy rain in one spot. Most likely, it will be the usual concerns like standing water and ponding that we’ll have to deal with.

The chance for rain lasts through Thursday as the front continues to influence our weather, especially in the southeastern portions of the area. The air behind the front is cooler than what we’ve seen recently, and highs will be in the mid to upper 70s in the higher elevation areas, with lower 80s in the southwestern areas. It’s the first of two fronts that will be impacting our weather. In addition to more chances for showers and storms, the second one has even cooler weather behind it than the first one does, and highs at the end of the extended forecast will be well below the normal. Lows will drop into the middle to upper 50s, with some upper 40s in the highest elevation locations!
