It is a warm afternoon with plenty of humidity and plenty of heat, to go along with some sunshine. Temperatures have risen into the 80s again, and the heat index is in the 90s in many areas, not only in the southwestern counties as you might typically se,e but also in Greenbrier County.
Tonight will feel like a summer night around the area as we only drop into the upper 60s to right around 70 degrees. There will also be some patchy fog in areas that pick up some rain, which has mostly been in the southern coalfields, but it could also develop in other areas before the night is done.
Tomorrow, we’ll see another summerlike afternoon, a trend that stretches through the middle of the week. Highs will be pushing towards and above the 90-degree mark, and the heat index will be above 100 degrees in the usual hot spots, especially by Wednesday.Later this week, a front will push into the region and will give us another chance for storms. While the Storm Prediction Center does not indicate that any of the storms will be severe, some of them could be on the strong side with the usual threats that we’ve seen often this summer in play again. There is little doubt that there will be rain almost everywhere around the region.
The good news is that once the front is gone (and this time there is enough southward push to make sure it doesn’t stall out around our area), temperatures will cool off nicely. Highs will be in the 70s starting Friday and lasting into next week. Lows will be in the upper 50s (yes, you heard that right) to lower 60s!
