Fairlea, WV (WOAY) – Not everyone walking the fairgrounds this week is from West Virginia, and one group is using that to its advantage.
Inside the West Virginia building at the State Fair, Visit Southern West Virginia has set up shop. The Oak Hill-based tourism bureau promotes the state’s nine southernmost counties, a region that includes the New River Gorge, Beckley and the Greenbrier Valley.
“Just representing southern West Virginia, helping visitors in southern West Virginia, promote the area to all the fair guests,” said Tim Naylor, executive assistant with the New River Gorge CVB.
Naylor says the fair draws the kind of visitor the bureau hopes to reach, travelers who aren’t yet familiar with what the area offers.
“We get a lot of visitors coming from Virginia and other places, and they don’t really know about the New River Gorge. And this is just really a good way to try to get people to come visit and see all we have,” Naylor said.
