Virginia Tech’s Keene Drafted by Patriots

WOAY – Former Virginia Tech tight end Dalton Keene is headed to the New England Patriots, having been selected with the 101st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Keene was the second tight end selected in the third round by the Patriots, who earlier in the evening had drafted UCLA’s Devin Asiasi.

Keene, a native of Littleton, Colorado, appeared in 39 total games for the Hokies from 2017-19, catching eight total touchdown passes, including one in his final game (vs. Kentucky in the Belk Bowl). He had three touchdown catches earlier in the 2019 season at Miami, and was an All-ACC Honorable Mention in 2018. He is the first Hokie selected in the NFL Draft since Greg Stroman in the seventh round in 2018.

The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds of the NFL Draft will occur Saturday. West Virginia has not yet had players selected in 2020; the last year a Mountaineer was not drafted was 2007.
