Washington, DC (WOAY) – The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Thursday March 13, 2025, that people recovering from recent severe storms may be eligible for food assistance through the USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). According to USDA estimates, nearly 3,000 households could be eligible for this relief, providing support for essential grocery expenses.
D-SNAP assistance provides temporary food assistance to households impacted by natural disasters, including those who may not typically qualify for SNAP but meet certain disaster-related income and expense requirements.
To be eligible for D-SNAP, a household must either live or work in an identified disaster area, have been affected by the disaster, and meet certain D-SNAP eligibility criteria. Eligible households will receive one month of benefits equal to the maximum monthly amount for a SNAP household of their size. The benefits can be used to purchase groceries at SNAP-authorized stores or from select retailers online to meet their temporary food needs as they settle back home following the disaster.
