Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The holidays are a great time to unwind with a good book. I was able to speak to USA Today’s Best Selling Author, Jenna Levine, about her latest release, My Road Trip with a Vampire. We also spoke about her next book series.
You can read that report or watch it below:
“18 and up. All ages.” This is USA Today Best Selling Author, Jenna Levine. Jenna is known for her My Vampire series, a trilogy of spooky romance novels. Levine just published the last book of the trilogy.
My Road Trip with a Vampire is about a reformed witch, Zelda, meeting a vampire, Peter, who lost his memories. Together, they embark on a cross-country road trip where they learn about themselves and each other. We just learned about the protagonist in her previous book, My Vampire Plus One. I asked her to explain how the series came to be, and she started with the first book in the series, My Roommate Is a Vampire.
“I can’t say that when I sat down to write Frederick and Cassie’s, the other two’s were the other two were already fully formed in my mind. They definitely came up as I was writing.” said Levine.
As the vampire series progressed, the themes grew slightly darker, with My Road Trip With A Vampire being the darkest, leading perfectly into her newest book series.
“It’s called Love You to Death, and it’s about a grim reaper who is really jaded and tired of his job. And, a young woman named Lucy who’s very down on her luck and, she literally and figuratively gets to the end of her rope one fateful night, the two meet and their paths are forever changed.”
Jenna explains how her writing evolved over time, from the sweeter start to the series to the latest release.
“My first two books. Very, unserious. I love them, but they’re not dealing with really heavy topics. Road Trip With A Vampire has some more existential stuff going on. Like, what does redemption mean? And is it possible to have done things that are too bad in your past to be worthy of redemption? And what does having a home mean?”
But don’t worry, each book will have you laughing along the way.
“I wanted there to be like comedy in this, but it was definitely some darker, some heavier themes, which I did enjoy doing because I hadn’t done that in my earlier books quite as much.” Levine continued.
