Upward Bound distributes supplies to students for online summer program

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – The Upward Bound program at WVU Tech is doing like many other summer programs and going online this year.

Upward Bound distributed supplies to kids in Fayette County for the summer program. Kids were able to pick up notebooks, pencils and even laptops with Wi-Fi hotspots to participate online.

An outreach counselor with Upward Bound, Ike Mootz, says that they were determined to hold a summer program, even if it meant doing things differently this year.

“When all this corona stuff went down, we never really had a thought about not doing a summer program, it was just about how we were going to do a summer program. And obviously with everything going virtual, we thought well we could go ahead and pivot to virtual too,” Mootz said.

Roughly 50 kids will be participating in the upward bound program this year with WVU Tech.
