UPDATE: Raleigh County man accused of killing another man while driving under the influence appears in court

UPDATE: RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – A man accused of driving under the influence and killing a man appears in court.

Nicholas Farthing, of Cool Ridge, was charged with DUI causing death after he was driving on Interstate 64, crashed, and hit another vehicle.   Kenneth Isaiah Brown of Hinton was pronounced dead on the scene.

Farthing appeared in front of Magistrate Peck, where he waived his preliminary hearing.  The case will now be bound over to a grand jury.

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – A Raleigh County man is in jail after being charged with DUI following a fatal crash on Interstate 64 near Beaver.

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, multiple emergency crews responded to a call regarding a crash around mile marker 125.5 on Interstate 64 eastbound Monday evening. Two vehicles were involved, with both reportedly catching fire.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they reportedly noticed one driver, who had been able to exit his vehicle, showing signs of impairedness. The driver of the second vehicle, identified as Kenneth Isaiah Brown of Hinton, was unable to escape his vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Nicholas Farthing, of Cool Ridge, was arrested and charged with DUI causing Death; he is currently in Southern Regional Jail. Additional charges may be pending; deputies believe speed to also be a factor in the crash.

The Beaver, Ghent, and Mabscott fire departments, along with Jan-Care Ambulance, were among the emergency crews to also respond to the scene.
