Update on Ghent Tollbooth Accident That Triggered Fire and Fatalities

(GHENT, WV) WOAY – A vehicle crash and fire closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 77 at mile marker 30 earlier today at the tollbooth near Ghent.

Around 2 p.m., a car traveling north hit three other cars stopped in the lane of barrier A northbound.

This crash caused the fire – causing the turnpike to call for assistance.

Ghent and Beaver fire departments were dispatched, along with Ghent and Jancare ambulances.

The West Virginia State Police and the West Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash.

As of 11 p.m. on March 11, there have been 3 fatalities confirmed. Police are still in the process of notifying the families.

Emergency personnel warn that traffic will be backed up for a significant amount of time and recommend people avoid the area if possible.

UPDATE: Traffic isn’t as congested, due to two northbound lanes being reopened.
