Update: New details emerge in Mercer County shooting case

Mercer County, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia state police say a suspect is dead following a shooting on November 6.

On the morning of Thursday, November 6, 2025, the Mercer County 911 Center dispatched law enforcement to a reported shooting.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim, 80-year-old Randall Mabe of Rock, WV, lying in the roadway on Rock Road.

Troopers were advised that the victim had allegedly been shot by his brother, identified as 72-year-old Fredrick Mabe of Rock, WV, who had barricaded himself inside the residence with a handgun.

Multiple law enforcement units surrounded the scene while West Virginia State Police Crisis Negotiator, SRT Delta Team, WVSP K9, and Bomb Technicians with a robot responded.

According to the media release, the incident ended with Fredrick Mabe discharging a firearm at SRT members. Mabe was hit with return fire and later died from his injuries.

The victim, Randall Mabe was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
