UPDATE: McDowell County confirms second case of COVID-19

UPDATE: MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2020, the McDowell County Health Department was notified of a second case of COVID-19. The second person under investigation had known risk factors related to travel. The second patient has been symptomatic but is recovering at home with supportive measures. The two cases that were confirmed today appear to be unrelated.

We are working diligently to identify additional residents who may have had contact with this individual. We will continue to keep you updated on this fluid situation through Facebook as well as through local media partners.“

MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – McDowell County is reporting their first confirmed case of COVID-19.

The McDowell County Health Department released the following information:

”Good afternoon. Earlier today, McDowell County confirmed our first case of COVID-19. The person under investigation had known risk factors related to travel and has been under quarantine since returning home. This patient was symptomatic but is recovering at home with supportive measures. Officials are working diligently to identify additional residents who may have had contact with this individual. We will continue to keep you updated with information as available. We, along with our medical providers are continually monitoring this ever-changing situation.

An official news release will be put out later today. Also, given this is McDowell County’s first positive case of COVID-19, we want to reiterate in the photo below the importance of proper hand washing and social distancing.”
