UPDATE: Identity released of the victim who was shot and killed in Beckley

UPDATE: (10 am, May 7, 2020) – The identity of the man who was shot and killed in Beckley has been released.

Detective David Allard tells WOAY that the victim is 39-year-old Troy Lee Williams of Summers County.

UPDATE (7:14 am, May 7, 2020) – The Beckley Police Department posted on social media Thursday morning that Latoya Monique Carter has been arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

Carter was arrested at her apartment complex in Charleston early Thursday morning by detectives from both the Beckley and Charleston Police Departments. She is currently in South Central Regional Jail pending arraignment.

Officers also say the suspect vehicle has been recovered, and the investigation is still in progress.

UPDATE: BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A man has died as a result of a shooting that took place in Beckley.

On May 6, 2020, at 6:36 pm, officers were dispatched to a shooting that had just occurred on the parking lot of Pet Supplies Plus in the Cranberry Creek Shopping Center. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered a thirty-nine-year-old black male victim with a single gunshot wound. Witnesses described observing a white Ford passenger car speeding away from the scene just after hearing a gunshot. The male was transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. The victim’s name is being withheld at this time, and the cause of the incident remains under investigation.”

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Beckley Police are investigating a shooting that took place shortly before 7 pm, in the parking lot of Pet Supplies Plus.

Detective David Allard tells WOAY that one male was shot and taken to a local hospital with unknown conditions at this time.

Currently, there is no one in custody.
