Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – New details emerge following a shooting that occurred in the Mount Carbon area of Fayette County on Monday, August 18, 2025.
According to a media release from Fayette County Sheriff Jess McMullen, the preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting was an isolated incident possibly with a single target.
The victim in the incident is identified as 49-year-old John Middleton of Mt. Carbon and the suspect is identified as 53-year-old Michael Hall, also of Mt. Carbon. Both individuals died in the incident according to deputies.Â
Three individuals received minor injuries from shotgun pellets related to the shooting. Deputies believe they were by-standers and not specifically targeted in the incident.
At this time the motive for the incident is still unclear.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
