Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – From approximately 1970 to 1983, the Shaffer Equipment Company in Minden mismanaged electrical transformers, which resulted in the release of toxic PCBs into the environment.
In the mid 80’s, the EPA conducted its first removal action in response and has conducted at least 3 more since, with the last as recently as 2020.
In May of 2019, the site was listed on the national priorities list.
Another removal action plan is in the design phase, and yet another will kick off its public comment period on June 2, ending on June 20.
WOAY has the information on an upcoming public meeting for the residents of Minden taking place on Tuesday.
