United Way of SWV and Beckley Community United Methodist Church to offer warming center volunteer training on December 5

Beckley, WV (WOAY) – The United Way of Southern West Virginia and Beckley Community United Methodist Church will partner to train volunteers interested in helping at the Beckley warming center on Tuesday, December 5.

The training sessions will be held at the Beckley Community United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall on 217 S. Heber Street at 6:00 P.M.

The Fellowship Hall will be available between December 11 and March 31 when the temperature, including wind chill, reaches 15 degrees.

The center will accept guests starting at 8:00 P.M. and remain open overnight until 7:00 A.M.

The warming center needs volunteers to prepare food and secure materials for guests.

Volunteers will be scheduled to work overnight when the center is open for the following shifts

  • 8:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M.
  • 12:00 A.M. to 4:00 A.M. 
  • 4:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M.  

In addition to the Beckley Warming Center, the Raleigh County Community Action Emergency Housing Center provides shelter, three hot meals, a snack, and emergency case management to those in need at 103 South Eisenhower Drive.
