McDowell County, WV (WOAY) – We now have updated court information for a McDowell County teacher facing criminal charges.
According to court records, 27-year-old Tyree Baker of Kimball, WV, is set to appear in McDowell County Magistrate Court on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 3:00 pm for a preliminary hearing.
Baker was arrested on Monday, March 23rd, after an investigation related to sexual misconduct allegations involving the McDowell County physical education teacher and a male Mount View High School student.
Baker was charged with 10 counts of sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust, 10 counts of prohibiting sexual contact against students by school employees, and 10 counts of solicitation of a minor by other means.
Baker allegedly made threats to harm the student and his family if he disclosed any details about the abuse.
Baker’s preliminary hearing is set for 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in McDowell County Magistrate Court. If a judge finds probable cause, the case will be sent to the grand jury.
