Two separate Fayette County vehicle accidents result in one death and multiple injuries

Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department reports that two separate accidents occurring this morning between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. resulted in multiple injuries and one death.

The first accident took place on WV RT. 61 Wilderness Highway just before the U.S. RT. 60 intersection when a single vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a power pole.

The 16-year-old driver unfortunately died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, and authorities have yet to disclose a name due to the victim’s age.

The second accident occurred on WV RT. 61 just outside of Oak Hill city limits.

Authorities suspect one vehicle swerving in the roadway crossed the center line, striking another car head-on.

Both drivers were transported to Raleigh General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

However, police suspect one driver suffered a broken leg.

Authorities do not suspect alcohol or illegal substances to be a factor in the accidents.

The roadway was closed for an hour for cleanup but has since reopened.

Both incidents are under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
