Oak Hill, WV (WOAY)Â The park service will conduct two prescribed burns in the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve this fall.
The burns will help remove invasive species, encourage native plant growth, and safeguard the park’s ecosystem.
One of the two burns will take place in the War Ridge and Backus Mountain area, covering approximately 212 acres near War Ridge Campground.
Traffic on nearby County Road 41 shouldn’t be affected, but temporary closures may be necessary at War Ridge Campground and War Ridge Road.
The second burn will be within the Arrowhead Trail System. Traffic on Gatewood Road shouldn’t be affected, but there may be closures on Arrowhead Trail and Craig Branch Trail.
The burns will happen sometime between October 15th and December 31st, depending on weather conditions.
