Two men facing charges in McDowell County after allegedly attempting to deliver contraband to FCI McDowell

Welch, WV (WOAY) Two men are facing charges after McDowell County deputies say they were caught allegedly attempting to introduce contraband into a federal prison. 

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office says deputies received a complaint Thursday about two men dressed in all black who were reportedly involved in activity near the Federal Correctional Institution McDowell. 

Deputies responded to the area of Edmore Village Road and conducted an investigation. 

They arrested 31-year-old Kewan Shade of Asheville, North Carolina, and 33-year-old Compton Daugherty, also of Asheville. 

Both men are charged with aiding escape and other offenses relating to adults and juveniles in custody or confinement, along with conspiracy. 

The sheriff’s office is thanking the public for providing information, saying tips from community members continue to play an important role in helping law enforcement investigate criminal activity.
