WOAY Sports confirmed Tuesday that all four public high schools in Raleigh County will have turf football fields installed in the next two years.
Following Tuesday’s Raleigh County Board of Education meeting, it was determined that Woodrow Wilson and Independence will have their turf fields installed prior to the 2020 season, while Shady Spring and Liberty will have their fields installed in 2021. Shady Spring and Liberty will both have new visitors’ bleachers prior to the upcoming season. Groundbreaking ceremonies will be held at a later date.
There are currently four football stadiums in Southern West Virginia with turf fields: Mitchell Stadium (Bluefield/Graham), Spartan Stadium (Greenbrier East), Anne S. Hunnicutt Stadium (Princeton), and Nicholas Memorial Stadium (Nicholas County).
