Travel increase reported on Memorial Day weekend, while gas prices rise

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Division of Transportation says more than three hundred thousand people were on the West Virginia Turnpike on Memorial Day weekend.

There were twenty-four thousand more transactions this year compared to last year. That is a four percent increase.

Meanwhile, gas prices across the state are increasing. According to GasBuddy, the average price of gas rose by 1.4 cents last week, now sitting at $3.02 per gallon.

The cheapest gallon of gas was $2.06. The most expensive gallon was $3.39.

The nationwide price of gas has fallen nearly 4 cents.
