Transportation secretary pulled over, released after reports of erratic driving: police investigating

CHARLESTON, WV (WOAY)The Charleston Police Department is launching an internal investigation after West Virginia Transportation Secretary Jimmy Wriston was pulled over for erratic driving and released last night.

Wriston was driving a state truck at the time. The incident occurred on southbound Interstate 77.

He was not charged with any offense. However, Charleston police say they are investigating to make sure their officers followed department policy.

Governor Justice dismissed speculation today that the stop was related to DUI charges and said he is also looking into the matter.

“To say he was pulled over and he was issued a DUI or whatever like that, from what I know right now, that’s not the case. But you know how I feel about stuff like this. And we’ll get to the bottom of it for sure,” Justice said.

He said it would be unacceptable if a state employee were to be found driving a state vehicle while under the influence.
