FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – The City of Oak Hill and its partners unveiled the new multi-use trails and trailhead at Needleseye Park during a community grand opening celebration.
Whether you are a mountain biker, climber, disc golfer, hiker, or trail runner, the 300-acre recreational refuge is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream.
“I don’t know how you find anything any more beautiful than what we have right here in Fayette County and all through this area with the Gorge,” said Former U.S. State Senator for West Virginia Joe Manchin. “I was chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, so my committee had oversight of all the parks and federal lands throughout America.”
Parks & Recreation Director Josh Sapio says it’s good to have closure for this long project.
“It’s such an amazing gem for Oak Hill, to bring this sort of adventure recreation as well as your average evening hike, evening walking the dogs,” said Sapio.
According to Manchin, knowing we had so much to offer here and were also able to secure the Blackwater Canyon for the first time was the cherry on top of the cake.
“It’s really something to see this come to fruition,” the former senator said. “We’re doing everything we can to bring more people here for a destination, not just a pass through, but come here and spend some time.”
Such a delight to have Needleseye right in our backyard.
“It’s an amazing park: the trail system, the disc golf course, the biking trails all come to culmination to be a real asset to the community of Oak Hill,” said Sapio. “And we’re so proud to offer it.”
