Tracking the next storm

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We’re continuing to track an upper-level disturbance that is set to push through the area tomorrow, become absorbed into a developing low off the South Carolina coast, and then dump more snow on us as the soon-to-be Nor’Easter pushes up the coast.

The first snow showers associated with the disturbance will start snowing on us on Friday morning. At first, all of the snow will be confined to the southern coalfields.

Later in the day, the snow spreads northward and almost everyone will see snowfall. It is at this point, that we see most of what we’ll get from the storm in areas from Beckley northward.

By the end of the day most of the snow should be done for areas outside of the southern coalfields. There, the snow will last into Saturday before fading.

With that area getting several rounds of snow, it’s not surprising that the southern areas in West Virginia and Virginia should see the highest totals.

Once the storm is gone, it will turn bitterly cold again, with highs only in the middle teens and lows hovering around zero degrees once again. After a couple of days in the deep freeze, it will be warming up by early next week, ahead of another storm system that will give us some rain in addition to more snow.
