OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We are expecting another storm system to affect our area over the next couple of days. Let’s take a look at this storm and tell you what we think we’ll see from it over the next couple of days.
The storm that will push a front through the area and give us rain and snow on Wednesday and Thursday will be centered over Lake Ontario by Wednesday morning.

In our area, the precipitation will start as a mix of rain and snow but will change over to all rain as we expect the highs on Wednesday to be in the middle 40s.

But there is plenty of cold air behind the front, and later Wednesday and into Thursday, the rain changes back to snow as temperatures cool off.

Even after the main area of snow is gone, some banding could set up with a northwesterly flow combining with the lift provided by the mountains to enhance snow totals wherever a band sets up.

Unlike in previous storms, the two major atmospheric models that we use are in fairly good agreement regarding snow totals with this storm.

The forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Charleston seem to think that snow totals with this storm will not be major outside of the usual high elevation areas.

In the end, we think that the mountain areas will pick up between 3 and 5 inches of snow, with 1 to 3 inches of snow in areas along and west of the spine of the Appalachians, and lesser amounts in the Greenbrier Valley and southern areas. As always, higher totals are possible in some isolated areas, especially those that see the banding.

Our confidence level is relatively high for this storm; the only factors that might affect totals are a later transition to snow on Wednesday and the duration of the banding.

Stay tuned over the next couple of days as we continue to track this storm as it pushes into and through our area. Click below to see a video version of the forecast…
