BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – October is Halloween month, and that means taking a trip to the Haunted Coal Mine.
They say it transforms into a winding labyrinth filled with eerie sights, unsettling sounds, and ghostly tales from the depths of the dark underground.
The tunnels come alive with the spirits of the past.
“It’s the coal mine. It’s a pretty creepy place. I don’t know that I would want to actually work in a coal mine based on what I’ve encountered here,” said Actor Andy Woodroff. “It’s very damp, very dark, kind of spooky. It is definitely spooky. That’s sort of the main attraction, the main character in our story of Halloween here.”
According to Woodroff, he plays Doctor Doom.
“I have a tendency toward cannibalism, so I like to stab them and then finish them off with my pleasure and leisure,” the actor said.
You will encounter different frightening scenarios from multiple exhibitors as the car goes through the mine.
“There is sort of an undercurrent of music played throughout that adds another bit of creepiness to it,” said Woodroff. “We have a good time with it. One of the only things I’ve ever done as an actor where you can mess with the audience. They are yours to play with. We get right up in their faces.”
It is a unique experience.
“I haven’t taken the tour myself because I’m part of it, but I can tell you I’m prepared. I’m going to have a good time trying to scare their socks off.”
