Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – Time is running out to comment on the Kanawha Falls Public Service District’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit, as their permit is expiring and is in need of reissue.
This permit is a legal document issued by the state government that allows a facility to discharge specific pollutants from a point source into public surface waters.
The 30-day comment period ends Saturday, September 12.
If any concerned citizen would like to comment or request a public hearing on the Clean Water Act violations resulting in raw sewage entering tributaries of the Kanawha River, which have been ongoing for over four years, this may be commented on or requested by anyone.
The public notice reads:
Any interested person may submit written comments on the draft permit and may request a public hearing by addressing such to the director of the Division of Water and Waste Management within 30 days of the date of the public notice. Such comments or requests should be emailed to Lori.K.Devereux@wv.gov
Correspondence must include the name, address, and the telephone number of the writer and a concise statement of the nature of the issues raised.
The director shall hold a public hearing whenever a finding is made on the basis of requests that there is a significant degree of public interest in issues that are relevant to the draft permit.
The deadline is Saturday, September 12.
