Tickets on sale for the New River Gorge Learning Co-Op’s annual gala

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – The New River Gorge Learning Co-Op in Fayetteville is getting ready for its 10th annual fundraising gala.

This is held every year at Smokey’s and gives people a chance to dress up and have fun, but it also serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit, Montessori school.

This unique school is private with a sliding scale tuition offering a child-centered education with a focus on nature, emotional intelligence and community involvement.

Jenny Becksted-Smith, the center’s director, says this fundraiser is always big for the school as they aim to keep expanding and become more accessible.

“This year, we are specially fundraising for general operations,” Becksted-Smith said. “We’ve done a lot of expanding the last few years hiring new teachers and adding new programs, the middle school for example. We’re just looking to fill in some of the gaps that our tuition didn’t quite cover.”

The gala will take place on March 21 and will last from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. This year’s theme is The 4 Elements and tickets are on sale on Eventbrite.
