Thurmond, WV (WOAY) If you’re looking for an outdoor challenge this weekend, the Thurmond Triathlon returns Sunday in the historic Town of Thurmond.
The beginner-friendly event, presented by Active Southern West Virginia, features a two-mile bike ride, a one-and-a-half-mile paddle on the New River, and a two-mile run through historic Thurmond.
Registration begins at 8:30 Sunday morning at the Dun Glen Day Use Area, with the race starting at 10:00 am.
Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early, as parking will be limited.
Participants can compete solo, as a duo, or on a team, and organizers say racers should bring their own bike, helmet, paddle, and life jacket unless renting a watercraft.
Online registration has closed, but those interested can still register onsite on Race Day.
Same-day registration fees are $50 for solo, $60 for duos, and $65 for teams of 3 or more.
Proceeds from the event will support Active Southern West Virginia’s free physical activity programs across the Mountain State.
