Hinton, WV (WOAY) This weekend is for the birds, the bald eagles, if we’re being specific.
The 2026 Spring Eagle Survey kicks off on Saturday, March 7, in Hinton.
Volunteers of all ages and experience levels are welcome to participate.
All new volunteers will be paired with a more experienced surveyor to learn the ropes.
Organizers say volunteers will need to bring binoculars, lunch, and a folding chair.
They also recommend bringing a spotting scope if you have one, as it will be helpful during the survey.
There are many observation points throughout the region, providing anyone interested with several places to participate in the survey.
The group will meet at the Hinton Dairy Queen to share results.
Anyone wanting to volunteer must send an email to Jim Phillips at jimandjudyphillips@gmail.com to be directed to a survey point.
